2019 Chamber Concert Series
Again we present our concerts in two seasons.
Autumn
features a concert of early Classical music, and our popular celebration of Mother’s Day with elaborate afternoon tea.
Spring
celebrates the music of J.S. Bach with a pilgrimage through his chamber works for violin, flute (recorder) and harpsichord, supported by vocal arias from his cantatas, within three concerts.
Our concerts are approximately 60- 70 minutes in duration without interval followed by complimentary refreshments.
Autumn
Concert 1
“Romantic Vienna”
Tim Nott (flute) and Geoffrey Morris (guitar)
present Romantic music for flute and guitar, including music by Giuliani and Schubert. Performed on period instruments, including Tim’s original 8 key rosewood flute, built in1830 by the renowned French maker Clair Godfroy (1774 – 1841) and Geoffrey’s Viennese guitar, this performance will transport listeners to the glorious days of Romantic Vienna of the late 18th century.

Concert 2
A Homage to Anna Magdalena
Celebrating Mother's Day
Harpsichordist, Lesley Lewis explores the Anna Magdalena Bach Book of 1725, revealing the music on which Bach’s household was nurtured by a remarkable wife and mother of a large, extended family.
This concert is followed by an elaborate afternoon tea, honouring Mother’s Day.

Concert 3
The Obbligato Violin Sonatas of J.S. Bach Nos. 1-3
Cynthia O’Brien (baroque violin) and Lesley Lewis (harpsichord)
play Sonatas BWV 1014 in B minor, BWV 1015 in A major and BWV 1016 in E major. With these works, Bach changed the role of the keyboard to one of equal partner with the upper melodic instrument, creating a three-part texture of two solo upper voices with bass.
Cynthia O’Brien, distinguished founder of baroque violin playing in Australia, takes on this marvellous pilgrimage with Lesley Lewis, co-director of The Little Music Room.

Concert 4
The Obbligato Violin Sonatas of J.S. Bach Nos. 4-6
Cynthia O’Brien (baroque violin) and Lesley Lewis (harpsichord)
play Sonatas BWV 1017 in C minor, BWV 1018 in F minor and BWV 1019 in G major. Altogether these works are a rare and highly valued section of Bach’s chamber music output, demonstrating the intricacies of trio writing which his sons, Carl Phillip and Johann Christian were to develop further in a new era.

Selected Sonatas & Arias
for recorder, voices and harpsichord
Ruth Wilkinson (recorders), Rachel & Elizabeth McCall (sopranos) & Lesley Lewis (harpsichord)
Melbourne recorder virtuoso Ruth Wilkinson, and versatile Adelaide vocalists Elizabeth & Rachel McCall with Lesley Lewis bring The Little Music Room's 'Bach-Fest' to a sublime conclusion with a selection of sonatas originally for flute, now transposed to the recorder, supported by arias from Bach's cantatas, for solo and duo sopranos, and featuring obbligato recorder.
